Project overview

Nestled high on the picturesque slopes of Lorne, this luxury home was built for the obvious views and relaxation that seaside villages provide. Apart from the 180-degree views of the southern coastline of Victoria, this beautiful home was designed to mould into the surrounding natural landscape whilst maintaining that personal privacy required.

This home boasts beautiful timber floors and an expansive enclosed external room that lends itself to lazy days and dramatic views.

Challenge

Sitting high in the tree filled hills of Lorne, the challenges were many. Views, views and more views. How to best capture those amazing views whilst having the least impact on the surrounding environment? How could we incorporate systems to produce a low maintenance environmentally responsible home? Taking advantage of the sea breezes and cross ventilation was a must to keeping energy bills down in summer and incorporating a central wood fire to keep things warm and cozy during those cold wintery days.

The input from the builder was immeasurable to the success of this build so the relationship and communication had to be of the highest importance.

Through close communication and working together the key elements requested by the client were achieved.

  • Capture those amazing views
  • The use of raw natural products
  • Energy efficient
  • Sustainable systems to reduce the environmental impact
  • Luxurious finishes

Result

The home is one of beauty, shadows and sunlit vistas. The use of raw materials such as concrete benches and earthy timber floors has achieved the result of bringing the raw nature of the Otway Ranges inside. Cross ventilation, high ceilings, double glazing and quality insulation have provided a low maintenance environmentally responsible home that is energy and water efficient.

The home provides privacy and a sense of being a million miles away once inside. The power of natural light, neutral colours and the ever-present sea breeze has resulted in the perfect luxury coastal home.
